Frequently Asked Questions
What are the age divisions for beach volleyball?
The age divisions have been the same as indoor, but beach only uses 18U, 16U, 14U, 12U. You move to a new division in September.
Do I need to find my own partner?
You do not need a partner to play and You do not need a partner for practices. We practice in small groups. The coaches will make suggestions about partners and will do their best to match you with a good partner for tournaments, but in the end it is your choice and your responsibility to find a partner for yourself. When do practices begin? Each season has their own specific starting date.
Do you have to go to all of the tournaments on the schedule?
No, all tournaments are optional. You can pick and choose which events you want to go to. You only have to coordinate things with your partner. You can just play in a few events if you want, or just the local events if you don’t want the expense of traveling.
What if you have to miss a practice or will be out of town for a week on vacation?
All practices are also optional. You have paid for the entire season, but if you can’t make a practice, you just don’t come. You don’t have to notify the coaches at all if you are going to miss. We just focus on the players at practice on any given day (remember, you get out what you put in, so I wouldn’t miss too often).
What equipment do we need to bring to practice each day?
You will need your ball and water bottle each day at practice.
What do the players wear?
Club Coconut requires all of our players to wear our top during competitions and bottoms must be in specific tournament compliance during competitions. There is no dress code for practice.
Where are the tournaments and how often do they have them?
Different organizations host events throughout the summer that we will share and encourage our athletes to participate in. Please keep in mind that some other organizations do require membership, that will be an additional cost. Coconut Beach will also host several weekend tournaments through the seasons.
Do you have practice if it’s raining?
Yes! Beach volleyball is an OUTDOOR SPORT. We want our players to master their skills under all outside conditions: wind, rain, hot, cold. Since our players pay for the entire season and the season is so short, we don’t want to miss any practices. We have found that we can still be productive, even if it is raining. We just ignore the rain and practice anyway. We will only cancel practice due to severe storms when conditions make the courts unsafe/unfit to play.
